Introducing 'Semi-Serious Security' Video Series

Semi-Serious Security” is vArmour's new spontaneous and informal video podcast series where we interview cybersecurity professionals from around the world in a fun and relaxed way. Our mission is to increase the conversation around cybersecurity and get into the minds of today's security professionals. Throughout the video series, we speak to CEOs, CISOs, technologists, and government officials who think about and work in the cybersecurity space. We’ve already gained some really interesting insight from some really brilliant minds, giving us a new perspective as we build security products for professionals battling in the security trenches every day.

Other vArmour folks will be joining the series to host future episodes. Meanwhile, I invite you to view the episodes I hosted (see below).

A little background on myself -- I’ve been fortunate enough to have an insightful view of technology and cybersecurity space over a long period of time.  From my early days in the Navy working in information security, recently serving as the first deputy under secretary for cybersecurity in the Obama Administration, to other various other commercial and startup roles, I've seen how the value of a world-class security team. An innovative organization that places a high priority on security can truly be the difference between a mediocre company and one that is highly respected and admired.

One of the greatest things about focusing on a single subject for a long time is seeing how shifts, changes, and trends impact society. I’ve been in the technology and cybersecurity business for a REALLY long time (floppy disks, token-ring, Pong, TRS-80, BASIC programming, etc.) and watching how the Internet and networking technology has changed from client-server to virtualization and the cloud has been one of the most interesting evolutions I can imagine.

It’s always been a tough time to be in the security business but the stakes in 2019 are higher than ever because the playing field is flatter than ever before. Good guys and bad guys are equal on so many levels that it’s hard to say who is better. The bad guys certainly have the first-mover advantage. Security breaches have become pedestrian and almost uneventful so ensuring that security is a priority for executives and companies is one of the reasons we started this little video series we call, “Semi-Serious Security.”

Our interviews are short (less than 5 minutes) with some entertaining and interesting insight you may not have previously considered. Let us know what you think and what questions you’d want to be answered. If we meet on the street somewhere be ready because I’m always looking for someone interesting to talk to.
